With winter coming, date nights start getting hard to come up with ideas. But let me be honest as a parent of 5 kids a night out just doesn’t happen very often. We have found at home date nights are perfect for us. I want to share some ideas to make date nights at home enjoyable. One rule that my husband and I  have with our date nights is no electronics. All phones and computers are put away for the night. We try to plan one or two date nights a month. Sometimes, with our busy schedule we are lucky to get one in. We have talked that for next year we want to make it more of a priority to get two in each month. We have come up with the idea of one week I will plan a date and another week my husband will plan something. I will have to update this and let everyone know how that goes. I’m interested in seeing what he plans.

Find a new recipe to cook together or make one that you both like. This is always a fun one. Because with having picky eaters we don’t get to try new recipes very often. This is where Pinterest comes handy because there are so many recipes to choose from. I have a folder that I have just date night dinners.

This one is perfect for winter. Transform your living room into a cozy spot. Place an air mattress in the living room. Then pull out pillows and all the cozy blankets. If you have a fireplace in your living room go ahead and light that. You want to make this different from other movie nights so that it feels special.

Now this is one we love to do as a date. We really enjoy playing the card game Hand and Foot. Even though we both grew up with different rules so we have decided to make up our own rules. With our game nights we love to make a snack to munch on while we play. Our favorite is Cream Cheese and bacon spread on Ritz crackers. Here are some other game ideas that I have found.

  • Let’s Get Deep: Questions for Couples
  • Uno Dare
  • Clue Conspiracy
  • Codenames
  • Qwirkle

You can check out all these games here .  With Christmas coming up these make a great gift idea for each other.

Enjoy a bubble bath together. Taking a bubble bath is already romantic on its own. But you can make it even more romantic and special by adding scented candles and music.

This one might sound weird. But this is one that we love to do on a snowy date night. Light the fire and just enjoy time together. Little hands and puzzles don’t match so it’s a challenge to us to make sure we finish the puzzle that night. Puzzles can get pricey. One place that we love looking at is The Dollar Tree.

This is where the competitive side in both of us comes out. We love pulling out Mario Kart. Another favorite is pulling out the original Nintendo and playing Mario Brothers. I’m not a big gamer but these are two that I enjoy playing.

Take a trip to your local liquor store and pick up a couple new wines. Not a wine lover, feel free to turn this idea into a beer tasting.

Set up easels, grab some paints and brushes. You can just have fun and paint whatever. Or channel your inner Bob Ross and follow along to one of tutorials.

Pull out the face masks and enjoy a night of pampering each other. Light some candles, put on some relaxing spa like music and sit back and relax.

Lay out your favorite blanket in the living room and enjoy a picnic by the fire. There are so many options for this one for food. One of our favorites is to order takeout from our favorite Chinese restaurant. Want to add a fun twist play a game of would you rather. These are always fun!

The options for at home date nights are endless and it doesn’t have to be boring. Make it about you both and what you both love. But the important part about date nights is to enjoy the time together. I hope these ideas help you out to plan your next date night at home.
