Eggs-perience the Fun after Easter

Don’t Toss Those Easter Eggs Just Yet! Easter fun is over but the fun with leftover eggs is just starting! Around here, those plastic Easter eggs have become the surprise MVP of the week especially in our busy bins. From sensory play to engineering challenges, these colorful shells are bringing big entertainment in small packages. And let’s be honest… Nothing sparks giggles like a good ol’ fashioned egg-stacking competition plus a quick fine motor activity for younger ones. Take a look at these activities to try after the Easter egg hunts.

Egg stacking Showdown:

Who can build their towers the tallest? Let the competition begin! As kids dive into this egg-stacking challenge, they’re not just having fun, they’re also learning. First, they experiment with different ways to balance the eggs. Then, as their towers grow taller (and wobblier!), they begin to problem-solve, adjusting their designs to keep everything steady. In addition, this hands on activity sneaks in valuable STEM skills like planning, testing, and spatial awareness. Best of all, it’s a playful way to keep those little minds (and hands) busy long after the Easter egg hunt is over. For this activity you will need to pull your eggs apart. If they are connected just cut them. Some more ways to play:
  • Challenge your child to build patterns as they build their towers.
  • Pull out a ruler or measuring tape to measure their tower.
  • For preschoolers, count out 20 eggs—perfect for practicing our counting skills!

Extreme Stacking Challenge:

This stacking challenge is perfect for older kids who are ready to take their building skills to the next level. To start, grab some whole Easter eggs and a bit of play dough. Just enough to help anchor each egg. Then, see who can build the tallest tower with the strongest foundation. At first, it may seem simple, but after trying it myself, I quickly realized it’s trickier than it looks! Along the way, kids will need to think critically, adjust their strategy, and test their designs. Making it a fun and sneaky way to build engineering skills while playing.

 Rescue the Eggs:

Looking for a simple yet engaging activity for your toddler? Try this “Rescue the Egg” challenge. It’s been a huge hit with my 2-year-old! To begin, all you need is one material: painter’s tape. First, tape down some Easter eggs to a surface like a cardboard box or even directly to the floor. Then, let your little one go to work peeling the tape to “rescue” each egg. Not only is this great for fine motor skills, but it also encourages problem-solving and perseverance. Plus, it’s so easy to set up, you’ll want to do it again and again!

We can’t wait to see what creative activities you come up with those Easter eggs! Whether you’re stacking, rescuing, or counting, these colorful eggs are full of playful learning opportunities. Be sure to share your favorite egg-tivities with us on Facebook. We love seeing all the fun ways you keep the magic going long after the last egg is found!
