Homemade Chicken Nuggets: Easy Dinner Recipe

Better than Fast Food: Homemade Chicken Nuggets for the Win

When it comes to comfort food, few dishes can rival the universal appeal of chicken nuggets. These golden, crispy bites of tender chicken are a favorite among kids and adults alike. As much as I would love just to hop in the car and go get some fast food nuggets I wanted to find a recipe that I could use to save money. Because let’s be honest the price of taking your family out to eat is crazy right now.

I was going back and forth between three different recipes when I was looking at them. They all sounded good. So I decided to combine ingredients from them all to make our nuggets. I’m so happy with how they turned out. The kids said they were five stars! And that’s coming from some picky eaters.

What I loved about this chicken nugget recipe was that it was so easy to make and had dinner on the table fast.

Must have kitchen gadget for homemade chicken nuggets:

One kitchen gadget that you will want to make sure to check out is this breader bowl. This gadget helped make the prep process go faster. So if you have chicken nugget lovers in your house and want to make more homemade nuggets this is a must-have in your kitchen. First I used it to put the flour on the chicken. Once that was done I took the chicken out and placed them on a plate. I then took the bowl and replaced the flour with the crushed cornflakes and seasonings. After dipping the chicken in egg I placed them back in the breader bowl to shake on the cornflake coating, making this process very easy.

Little changes I made to our chicken nuggets:

These little changes that I made were just because I didn’t have the original ingredients and didn’t have time to run to the store. Here are the small changes that I made:

  • One recipe called for breadcrumbs so I decided to use four cups of Corn Flakes as the coating. This gave them a yummy crunch and helped them not get soggy, like in other recipes that I have tried before where I kept running into this issue.
  • Another small change that I made was that instead of adding parmesan cheese I used sharp cheddar cheese. My picky husband loved this and was happy that I switched it.

What to pair them with:

You can pair this recipe with just about anything. A couple of our family favorites are french fries, mac n cheese, or seasoned potatoes. The options are endless and just depend how quick and easy you want to make this meal

Bonus they reheat well:

If you’re lucky to have leftovers, the good news they reheat well in an air fryer. I reheated mine at 280 degrees for 4-5 minutes. However, I have used the microwave to reheat these but I wasn’t happy with how they turned out. I just love how the air fryer helps make them crunchy again and not taste dried out.
