Everything you will need:

There is a little prep work to this sensory play. Here is a list of everything that you will need.

Sensory Play
  • Shaving cream
  • Sprinkles
  • Ice cream cone play-dough toys or really anything for their “ice cream” shop
  • Scoop
  • Bowls

*TIP* Want to do this playtime with young kids that still love to put things in their mouth? Instead of using shaving cream switch it out and use cool whip or whip cream!

Want to make “flavored” ice cream?

Just mix these into your shaving cream.

  • Chocolate powder- Chocolate “ice cream”
  • Red food color- Strawberry “ice cream”
  • Green food color with mini chocolate chips – Mint chocolate chip “ice cream”

How to make this Sensory Ice Cream:

It’s super easy to make. It takes longer to gather everything you need to mix it all together

In your bowls add in your shaving cream. If you’re adding in things to your shaving cream, do a small amount and mix in your extras. Then you will add more shaving cream and mix well.

The chocolate powder took some time. I had to do a little at a time and keep repeating for a couple of times. I think mixing in food color would be a lot easier. Of course my daughter just wanted Vanilla and Chocolate for her ice cream shop!

Sensory Play time!

This is a messy play just so you know. We played with our ice cream on a cookie sheet and it worked perfectly. And the clean up was simple rinse down the drain.

To make this a fun play instead of using bowls we used some empty ice cream containers that we had saved up. My 3 year old loved this idea. She played ice cream shop for.

This sensory play would even be fun when added to bath time. Perfect for those winter months! We will be definitely be doing that here because winter is approaching fast!
