Indoor Rainbow Color Hunt A Fun Kids Activity

March is the perfect time for Rainbow fun! St. Patty’s Day and spring time fun

Looking for a fun and educational activity for kids at home? A Rainbow Scavenger Hunt is the perfect way to help preschoolers and young kids practice color recognition, counting, and observation skills while having tons of fun.

This simple indoor activity turns everyday household items into a colorful learning game. Kids will love searching the house for objects that match each color of the rainbow from something red to something purple. It’s a great activity for rainy days, preschool learning, playdates, or when the kids say they’re bored.

What Is a Rainbow Scavenger Hunt?

We’ve created three new printable scavenger hunts that you can download for free! Our family has completely fallen in love with these scavenger hunts. They’re such a fun and easy activity for kids. To make them reusable, I laminated each printable so we don’t have to keep reprinting them. They work perfectly with a dry erase marker, so kids can mark off items as they find them and use the scavenger hunt again and again.

Rainbow Scavenger Hunt:

For the Rainbow Scavenger Hunt, you’ll see six different color boxes. Have your little one search around the house to find an item that matches each color. Once they find something, they can bring it back and place it in the matching color box.

Want to add a little extra movement to the game? Try adding simple gross motor challenges! For example, once they find their red item, have them hop back to the table, or after finding a blue item, they can tiptoe back. Adding these fun movements turns the scavenger hunt into an active game while helping kids build strength, balance, coordination, and stamina.

Counting Scavenger Hunt:

With our Counting Rainbow Scavenger Hunt, kids will find items that match both a color and a number. In the first box, they will find 1 red item. In the next box, they will find 2 orange items, and the pattern continues with each color of the rainbow.

This version is a fun way to add number recognition and counting practice into your rainbow scavenger hunt while kids are actively playing and exploring. It’s a simple way to mix learning and fun in one colorful activity!

Our final printable Rainbow Scavenger Hunt adds a fun twist! In this version, kids will read each clue on the sheet and find an item that matches what was described. It makes the kids think of what to find. This one is especially fun to turn into a race. See who can find and check off all their items first! It’s a great way to add a little friendly competition while keeping kids engaged and moving.
