Apple Sensory Fun! Easy Fall Sensory Box

Pick, Sort & Play! Apple Sensory Box for Preschoolers

Looking for a simple fall activity that will keep your preschooler busy and having fun? This Apple Sensory Box is one you won’t want to miss! I love how easy the setup is, and you only need a few simple supplies to create a fun sensory activity right at home.

My 3-year-old especially loved this one! He had so much fun picking the “apples” over and over again and sorting them by color. It was such a simple activity, but it kept him engaged while giving him a chance to practice fine motor skills, colors, and sorting.

If you’re looking for an easy fall sensory activity for preschoolers, this Pick, Sort & Play Apple Sensory Box is definitely worth adding to your activity list!

Why I Love This Apple Sensory Box

First of all, I love how simple this Apple Sensory Box is to set up! As a busy mom, I’m always looking for activities that don’t require a ton of preparation or a long list of supplies. Plus, this is such a clean and simple sensory play idea, which makes it even better for an afternoon of play.

Even better, you can have this activity ready in just a few minutes. Because of that, it’s perfect for those moments when you need something easy to keep your preschooler entertained. At the same time, your little one gets to practice colors, sorting, and fine motor skills while they play.

How to set up your apple sensory box:

Setting up this Apple Sensory Box is quick and easy! First, fill an empty sensory bin with dried beans. You only need enough beans to create a base for your little one to dig and explore.

Next, tape your apple cutouts to empty toilet paper rolls. This creates the perfect spot for your preschooler to pick and place their “apples.”

Then, place the apple-covered toilet paper rolls into the sensory bin and arrange them throughout the beans.

Finally, spread the red and green pom-poms throughout the bin. Now your Apple Sensory Box is ready for your little one to pick, sort, and play!

The best part is that the setup only takes a few minutes, so you can quickly put this activity together whenever your preschooler needs something fun to do.

What Kids Are Learning Through This Apple Sensory Play:

Apple Sensory Play
  • While your little one is busy picking, sorting, and playing, they’re also learning important skills without even realizing it! This simple Apple Sensory Box is a fun way to combine hands-on play with early learning.
  • Practice color recognition by sorting the red and green “apples” onto the matching apple tree. Next, they work on their fine motor skills as they pick up each pom-pom apple and move it to the correct spot. At the same time, they’re building hand-eye coordination as they carefully pick up and place each apple.
  • Great independent play activity for preschoolers. While your little one is busy picking and sorting, you might finally have a few minutes to get those dishes done, start dinner, or simply enjoy a cup of coffee!

It’s a simple activity with lots of opportunities for learning—and sometimes, that’s exactly what we busy moms need!
