Let’s Build a Snowman!

Snowman Sensory Bin

For this bin there are a couple ways you can create this bin with stuff you already have at home. Don’t stress about always buying new items for sensory bins, use what you have laying around your house.

What I used:

  • Cotton balls
  • Small cup
  • Scoop

What I added for extra fun were small arctic animals because they love snowmen too, says my 4 year old. These are animals that we had in playroom. I also added clear marbles to look like ice but also to add another texure in the sensory bin.

For some items that you can use instead check out these ideas. If you don’t have…

  • cotton balls use: rice, fake snow or dry white beans
  • small cup use: cupcake liners, clear bottle, glass cup.
  • scoop use: spoon

Remember these items don’t have to be new. Use what’s around your house. I find that when I go simple they play longer. So don’t over think it.

How to assemble your Snowman sensory bin:

Start by drawing a snowman face on to your cup. If your kid is older let them do this step. My 4 year old loves helping me make her bins. TIP if you’re using a glass cup use a dry erased maker for easy clean up.

Lay out your “snow” on the bottom of your bin. Add your cup anywhere in the bin. Then add your scoop.

Now your ready to play:

There are some different ways you can play with this set up. And some are:

Build a snowman cards-

Draw a card and put that many scoops into your cup. This is a great activity for preschoolers to help with counting skills. The cards are 1-10 to help with those skills.

Download your set of cards here:

Stuff the snowman cup-

Fill up your cup Snowman. You can do that by using your fingers like little tongs or with your scoop. Want to add some math? Count how many you need to fill up the Snowman cup. Older kids have them close their eyes and see if they can get their scoop in the cup while they keep their eyes close.

Stack the cotton balls-

See how many cotton balls you can stack together without them falling down.
